Interview10 on Copywriting with Luke Ross-Edwards
Why an Interview on Copywriting?
With this Interview10 on Copywriting, I make an attempt to bring the aspirants of the field closer to the reality. I have a written a post on copywriting on my blog.
Thanks to Luke Ross-Edwards for this interview, who is a freelance copywriter and has learned the art of copywriting from many word class marketers.
I hope you can gain many practical insights from this interview.
1. What exactly does a copywriter do?
The aim of a copywriter is to write text.
So they persuade their prospects to do a specific action that they want them to do.
For example, usually this will mean convincing them to buy a product or service.
Or it could mean even convincing them to follow them on social media.
So you if you were to describe copywriting in one word it would be “copywriting”.
2. How to become a freelance copywriter?
Just start. Don’t overthink it and start contacting companies.
Everything in the freelance game is about numbers.
The more companies you contact, the more clients you will get.
3. What is it like to be a copywriter?
It’s very good. I get to learn, read and write about a variety of subjects which really interest me.
Also, the freedom it gives me so that I can work from home is excellent.
If I want to, I can pop out to the shop at 11am if I feel like it.
4. What are examples of copywriting?
My advice is to go to www.swiped.co
This place contains all the best adverts that are currently working and also the ones that have done well in the past.
I regularly look at it for inspiration.
5. Do copywriters make good money?
It’s totally dependent on how good you are.
If you stick at it throughout and keep improving, then after ten years you will be earning seriously good money.
6. What are copywriting best practices
If there’s one copywriting piece of advice I would offer you it’s that you should write like you talk.
Conversational style writing is far more interesting to read.
7. How to do copywriting research
This is actually one of the most important tasks I do for each project.
And it takes up nearly 50% of the total time I spend on it.
Everything you want to research can usually be done on the internet by looking on social media, forums, google etc…
8. When you make a copy, how do you decide it is final to be published?
I edit, edit, edit and then edit some more.
But the one thing I do before knowing it’s final is to print off a hard copy and edit it.
It’s surprising how many new errors come up that I didn’t see when looking at it on my computer.
9. Can copywriting be automated?
No.
And when it can then we will all be out of jobs, because it requires a lot of brainpower to be able to do it successfully.
10. Any final message to the readers?
Copywriting is one of the best professions you could select.
And the amount of copywriters out there who are any good is very low.
If you can get good at this skill, you will be very wealthy.
